External Keyboard

iTeleport supports external keyboards with certain limitations.  These limits exist primarily because of constraints imposed by Apple, and as these constraints are removed, we will be improving our support for external keyboards.

Device Limitations

Once you're connected to your remote desktop in iTeleport, you need to tap the Keyboard icon to enable the external keyboard.

External keyboards are only supported on iOS v3.2 or higher, and only on the following devices:

  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4
  • iPad
  • iPod touch 3rd generation

Key Limitations

The iOS SDK does not allow the interception of every single key-press, and so many common key combinations are not recognized by the external keyboard.

What works:

  • All standalone keys -- i.e., the alphabets, numbers, spacebar, enter, punctuation
  • Capitalized keys using Shift
  • Arrow keys (including Shift and Command arrow key combinations)
  • Command-A (select all)

What does not work:

  • Command, Option and Control modifiers on any key (e.g. Command+Tab, Ctrl+Alt+Del)
